Become an effective advocate for your child's success in school!

Students who have disabilities or suspected disabilities may be eligible for additional supports and services through their school. For families, the processes and acronyms can seem overwhelming to start. Join us for four days of useful information and effective strategies to help you and your child navigate special education options. We will also discuss communication and advocacy steps to improve collaboration with your child’s school team.

Monday, February 24th:

  • Introductions
  • What to expect in this series
  • Developing a vision to prepare for IEP and CSE meetings
  • Building self-advocacy skills
  • Compassion

Tuesday, February 25th

  • Understanding federal laws and regulations
  • Baggage
  • Effective communication and advocacy steps

Wednesday, February 26th

  • Building bridges through disability awareness
  • Evaluations & classifications
  • RTI, 504, IEP: What’s the difference?

Friday, February 28th

  • Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Improvement Plans
  • Understanding the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
  • Introduction to Mental Health
  • Welcome to My CSE
  • Graduation

We will have a break at lunchtime daily. Bring your own lunch. Water and light snacks will be provided.

REGISTRATION

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED BY FEB. 21, 2020. This series is FREE to family members of children who have disabilities. Plan to attend all four sessions to be an FES graduate!
