Join us for the third event in our 2017 series — Building A Vibrant Community: A Series on Self-Direction, Inclusion and Belonging

Graphic showing map of town with large pin showing destinationThis full-day conference will focus on a person-centered approach to creating housing for people who have Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities. To be sustainable, a good housing plan must be rooted in the individual’s personal goals, address their needs, and identify and optimize their personal resources and public funding. We will follow the paths of two individuals seeking to live independently.

Morning session - Presented by Christopher Liuzzo

This session will provide an in-depth look at Shared Living, a form of support often overlooked and underutilized. In Shared Living arrangements, persons with and without disabilities live together and share their lives. Christopher will share definitions and examples of Shared Living, its relationship to Person Centered Planning, labor and tax implications, and safeguards that should be considered.

Afternoon session - Presented by John Maltby, with special guest James Traylor

This session will describe how people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities can build their Social Capital, and create and protect Financial Capital—and how these relate to housing options. We will discuss how housing is created, ownership and rental options, and the creation of a housing plan.
