What is Self-Direction?

Self-Direction means you choose the supports and services that work best for you. You and your circle of support (also known as a planning team) develop a person-centered plan, including a self-directed budget to pay for the staff and other supports and services needed at home and in the community. These can include one-to-one staff, respite, employment supports, classes, therapies, transportation, housing subsidies, and other items.

How can Starbridge help?

Starbridge’s Fiscal Intermediary (FI) service team supports individuals who have a self-directed budget. Our staff members can help with –

  • Recruiting and hiring staff
  • Staff training
  • Managing staff payroll
  • Helping you keep track of your budget and expenditures
  • Ensuring that service documentation and Medicaid billing are done in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Self-Direction services are available for individuals who are eligible for New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) waiver services. To access OPWDD services, start by calling OPWDD’s Front Door toll-free at 855-679-3335.
