General discipline procedures are different from discipline procedures for students who have disabilities. NY State and federal laws provide specific rights for students with disabilities when it comes to suspensions and school discipline.

Join us for an overview of these rights, the process used for discipline and suspensions, and how to advocate effectively and collaboratively. You will also learn about Functional Behavioral Assessments and how to create a proactive Behavioral Intervention Plan to help avoid future conflict.

About the Presenter:

Ashley Westbrook is a Staff Attorney at Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. who focuses her practice on educational advocacy for students who are disabled and at-risk for involvement in the criminal justice system. She has worked with young people in various capacities for over 15 years including direct representation of hundreds of young people in family court, state court, and school-based administrative proceedings.
