Back-to-School Support
After a year or more of remote learning, many children experienced learning loss, delays in social skill development, and increased mental health concerns. Our Family Education Specialists and Advocates worked with families to prepare their children for the return to in-person learning.
A Place for Everyone
Created by activists and advocates Jeiri Flores and Sabrina Smith, our Intersectionality series featured presenters with lived experience of disability and other marginalized identities.

Ready for Employment
In 2021, we shifted our pre-employment service focus from a mix of Day Habilitation and Community Pre-Vocational (CPV) to 100% Community Pre-Vocational Services. At Starbridge, individuals in our CPV Service spend each day developing job-readiness skills through volunteer service at places like Meals on Wheels, Fairport Baptist Home, Goodwill, Legacy Nursing home, and the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Also, as COVID-19 vaccinations increased and restrictions eased, our Employment Counselors connected youth and adults with internships and jobs in businesses around the region.
Baby Steps
In September, we joined in Monroe County‚ Early Intervention Awareness Month event. Those early years in a baby‚ development are important, and every state offers Early Intervention services to support young children and their families.

Fiscal Intermediary Growth
Our FI Team supports individuals and families all the way from neighborhoods in Rochester out to rural towns throughout the Finger Lakes. To keep up with demand, our FI Team is growing rapidly, and we are thrilled that our team now includes members fluent in Spanish and ASL!
Contrary to popular belief, FI Services and Self-Direction are not just for adults with disabilities. Families of young children with disabilities are finding FI support helps them manage daily living and open up possibilities that they hadn’t considered before.
Doing More, Together
As of January 1, 2021, Starbridge became the first new Member Agency of Al Sigl Community of Agencies in 34 years!
Becoming a Member Agency offers benefits, including Board representation of Starbridge in the Al Sigl and Al Sigl Foundation Boards, increased visibility in the community, an expanded network of partners and collaborators, and increased fundraising support. In return, we can contribute our unique strengths to the network, especially our Self-Direction, Education, and Employment services and supports.
