SESSION 1- NOVEMBER 1: 4PM-5:30PM

“Reluctance, Avoidance, Refusal: When Our Kids Don’t Go to School”

Dr Jim Wallace, Child & Adolescent Pyschologist and Lynn Carragher, Director of Inclusive Education, Brockport CSD

When children miss days of school they quickly fall behind academically, lose important social connections with peers and teachers and develop behaviors that make returning to school more difficult. We will explore how school avoidance begins, how and why it continues and how good communication and collaboration can re-establish daily school attendance.

SESSION 2- NOVEMBER 8: 4PM-5:30PM

Chuck Allan-Education Liaison, Monroe County DHS/FACT and Brice Meade, CPS Supervisor will discuss what constitutes a FACT referral vs. a CPS referral, and will lead a discussion on how we perceive students with low attendance and what supports are available to families.

To participate, you must have access to a computer at another location – your home, office, or other facility. Zoom link will be sent 1 day prior to event.

SESSION 3- NOVEMBER 15: 4PM-5:30PM

Jane Gabrielle, Esq. will share what the law says about attendance, what parents are required to do to get their child to school, and what are options are for when a student can’t get to school. Carly Jelsma, Director of Attendance- RCSD, will share her tips for how schools and families can work together around attendance issues.
